Discussing A Land Remembered by Patrick D Smith

Is A Land Remembered one of your favorite books? Is it on your “must read” list? Would you enjoy discussing it with a few others who share your interest in Florida history, literature and authors? Then join a small group discussion via Zoom at 4 p.m. eastern time on Thursday, December 3.

Sign up today to be part of this event. Use the ticket form below (and follow the checkout process), email Kim Kyle kkyle@leegov.com or call the History Center at 941-964-1600. Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive more information and a Zoom link. You can join the discussion from any location via computer, phone or tablet.

A Land Remembered is “a big, rough-tough, folksy Florida saga… But it is also an epic portrayal of the American pioneer will to survive against all odds. And finally it is the story of land, how at first bare survival is scratched from it and then how it is exploited far beyond human need.” The author, Patrick D Smith, was nominated seven times for the Pulitzer Prize and five times for the Nobel Prize for Literature and was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 1999. A Land Remembered has been ranked #1 Best Florida Book eight times.
