Hurricane Recovery Updates
An Update on Our Hurricane Recovery & Fall Program Schedule
October 22, 2024
Dear Members, Boca Grande Community and Visitors,
Our hearts go out to all the residents and businesses affected by the recent storms. The Boca Grande Historical Society & History Center, like many places on the island, has sustained severe damage. Our exhibit space is central to our mission and one of the major means by which we promote visitor access to our collections. While repairs are underway, it will take time to work through all the unknowns.
Most scheduled programs for November and December are cancelled or postponed. We remain optimistic, and as we know more in the coming weeks, we plan to reassess programming for 2025 and will keep you updated. In the meantime, the History Center staff are working remotely and are available by email or phone to answer any questions you may have about donations, or future events.
We’re sending love to everyone during this time of recovery, and we’re looking forward to welcoming you back to Boca Grande. Thank you for your continued support and optimism for the future.
You can help us get back on our feet by making a donation of any size today. Your financial contribution is fully tax deductible and will go directly towards recovery, keeping our educational and cultural programs alive and the archival database up and running to preserve the history of our community now and for future generations. It is our job to record all the history good and bad so people will have a richer understanding of life on Boca Grande in all its transformations.
Our mission is history and island historical records document hurricanes that affected Boca Grande back to the late 1800s. There are photos in the archives of earlier flooding from past hurricanes, too. The island has always stayed strong and resilient, and it will again.
We are sensitive to the needs of so many affected, any amount you can donate will help. Donate to the Boca Grande Historical Society & History Center using the donation form below!
Sincere thanks,
Kim Kyle
Administrative Director
