10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Location: Boca Grande Historical Society History Center
Please Join Us to Dedicate the James and Rosemarie Blaha Research Library and Discover the New Exhibit “One Island, Three Hometowns”
Island residents James and Rose Marie Blaha have worked tirelessly to create a library of Island History. So we honor them today and for the future by dedicating this library in their honor. You can salute them by attending and congratulating them during this event.
PLUS…You’ll be among the first to see our new exhibit “One Island, Three Hometowns” representing Island History 1890-1960 and covering Gasparilla Village (north end of the Island), Boca Grande (center Island) and Port Boca Grande (south end of the Island). The exhibit is dedicated to the many long-time residents who have shared their memories of these three unique communities of Gasparilla Island. This is a great chance to see what the Island was like before many of us discovered it.
About the Exhibit: “One Island, Three Hometowns”
The exhibit (open Tuesday, October 10, 2023) is based upon the book, “One Island, Three Hometowns” and is dedicated with gratitude and appreciation to the many long-time residents who have shared their memories of the three unique communities of Gasparilla Island which centers upon the years 1890 – 1960. Years that witnessed significant changes to Gasparilla Island, including the development of downtown Boca Grande and of the north and south ends of the island plus illustrating the island’s diversified economy, labor force, and social communities.
